#9: build a better (DIGITAL) meeting

a great meeting is built on inviting the right people, and technology has made it possible for us to invite the right people every time. by utilizing skype, iChat, or tokBox we have the opportunity to invite participants who live in a variety of locations, or who aren’t physically able to attend a meeting. when considering your invite list for a meeting – create a dream list that includes both physical and digital participants. don’t allow physical proximity to stand in the way of your perfect meeting!

tip #9: lead a great (DIGITAL) meeting:

PREPARE: once you’ve set your agenda and invited the participants, prepare for a great digital meeting by making sure your digital participants have all of the necessary documents. you won’t have the luxury of handing out a file during the meeting, so be sure to email or file share anything that will be needed for the meeting.

TEST: do a test run with your digital participants before the meeting to be sure the technology is working, the lighting and sound are right, and the environment is good for all participants to interact.

INCLUDE: during the meeting, treat your digital participant the same as your physical participants. ask for feedback and ideas, and give opportunity for them to participate in similar ways. don’t forget about them just because they are on a computer or tv screen!

share your story! have you led or participated in a digital meeting?
